Shivananda Sadhana Kutir
The site of the Shivananda Sadhana Kutir is just 7 km from the shore line of Mamallapuram. Mamallapuram is a beautiful Heritage site. The surrounding area has artisans who sculpt rock statues required by temples; tradition carried forward for over 2500 years. Close by is Pondicherry, Chidambaram Kumbakonam, etc., which have the largest number of temples more than 1000 years old, or older. the vision of the kutir for students is free education, food and stay.
Swami Satchidananda was a Vendantic Acharya following the traditional methods of Advaita Vendanta. He had taken the path of monkhood in the journey to realize the Vedantic Self, following a successful corporate career, family life and all the good things life has to offer.
Swamiji was a pure Advaitist (non-dualist). His Satguru, Swami Sivananda, trained many disciples to propagate Vedanta and Yoga to the world. While most religions have caused great divisions in society, Vedanta remains a unifier. The individual who craves for freedom, happiness and contentment can, in fact, achieve all this here and now, and move from fear into power. A mind-blowing revelation!

After Thought
I feel that spirituality is getting corporatized fast. Our tradition guides us that no money should be charged for education of Vedas and Yoga. We have taken an internal decision not to charge anyone for stay or class but will do a screening of the intent of person before we invite anyone to the Kutir. Costs will be there as indicated and we will try to manage through donations and building up of appropriate amount of corpus funds so that interest can be used for revenue expenditures. In the old days the king used to support and today it's you. This is what Swami Sivananda taught us.
Be blessed ever
Swami Satchidananda
